Unleashing Your Freelancing Potential: Tips for Beginners

My buddies and I used to hit up this tea joint at night to chillax. One day, as we were wrapping up, we checked our wallets to settle the bill since we split the costs. Unfortunately, two of us were wallet-empty. But hey, we still somehow scraped together enough cash to pay for our tea. That incident got us thinking, though. Even though we were in our mid twenties, we had to hit up our parents for money. We were university students, and our parents were cool with giving us an allowance, but we felt a bit guilty about not earning our own. It just didn't seem right to ask for money considering all the things our parents had done for us. So, we put on our thinking caps and brainstormed ways to make some moolah to cover our daily needs.

We didn't have any savings to start a new venture, but each of us had our own talents or expertise. That's when one of my pals suggested freelancing as the way to go. So, the four of us signed up on a freelancing platform (the fifth dude had big dreams of being an entrepreneur). We picked Fiverr since it was easy to use and reliable. We created gigs for online tutoring, graphic design, coding, and more. We came up with catchy descriptions and used all the SEO tricks in the book, and guess what? We started getting orders rolling in faster than we expected. Before we knew it, our freelancing hustle was booming. Sure, our progress varied, but we were all making enough dough to cover our own tea tab. And the fact that we were earning in dollars was a lucky break, especially with the crazy inflation back home in Sri Lanka.

One of my mates, Rifky Azaad, actually went beyond and built his own gig empire. The dude gets bombarded with messages every day and has even outsourced a ton of orders. Now he's got a whole team working for him. Talk about boss status! He's raking in a cool $3000 a month, which is a whopping LKR 1,080,000. That's like five times what a government doctor pulls in here in Sri Lanka.

You must be wondering, what's his secret sauce? Well, I'm about to spill the beans and give you a list of tips based on my own experiences and observations.

1. Killer Gig Descriptions:

This guy's gig descriptions were next-level. They were eye-catching and optimized like a boss. In no time, his gigs were popping up on the first page of search results.

2. Sensible Pricing:

He started off with a bang by offering competitive prices. He focused on building up those killer ratings and reviews at the start. Then, gradually, he bumped up his prices while still keeping things reasonable. He even allowed some room for negotiation, and that drew in even more buyers.

3. Grinding for Quality:

Man, he was working so hard that he didn't even have time to chill with us anymore. Before he started outsourcing, he put in the hours to earn the trust of his buyers. Once someone worked with him, they became lifelong clients. And those clients, they brought him even more clients. It was like a never-ending referral party. His profile too eventually hit upper grades very quickly in Fiverr.

4. Speedy Delivery:

This dude was like a superhero with his quick completions. He finished tasks well ahead of schedule. Who wouldn't be blown away by that? It gave his buyers plenty of time to discuss any tweaks they wanted.

5. Embracing Revisions:

Look, buyers have the right to question our work and ask for changes. Sometimes they straight up reject what we've done. And you know what? Rifky got it. He was all about accepting revisions and giving his best shot to keep his buyers happy.

So, there you have it, folks. These are the secrets I wanted to spill in this article. Hope you found 'em helpful. Cheers!
